UN asked not to recognise 2010 Myanmar election

Washington, Dec 11 Three dissident Burmese groups have asked the United Nations and the international community not to recognise the scheduled 2010 elections in Myanmar unless all political prisoners including Aung San Suu Kyi are released by the country' military junta.
On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the groups- All Burma Monks' Alliance, 88 Generation Students, and All Burma Federation of Student Unions - have asked the international community to put more pressure on junta leader to hold a meaningful dialogue with the democratic opposition.
"We urge the international community to not recognise the 2010 election, if there is no release of all political prisoners, including Aung San Suu Kyi, no sustainable political dialogue with democratic opposition and ethnic minorities, and no national reconciliation first," they said in a joint statement.
